Yeovil Vision - Under New Management
The Yeovil Vision Local Delivery Team based at 80 South Street will cease operations at the end of 2009.
The current structure was put in place in 2007 by the Vision funding partners South Somerset DC, Somerset CC and Yeovil Town Council to give a dedicated drive and focus to help deliver Yeovil Vision projects. Recent reductions in public sector finances now mean that the Vision Partners can on longer afford to finance a stand-alone delivery structure.
However, the Funding Partners have confirmed their commitment to the continued delivery of the Yeovil Vision and in order to maintain momentum South Somerset District Council will be taking the management of Vision projects in-house.
The governance of the Vision will continue via an independent Project Management Board. The Galaxy Group a public / private partnership of key local stakeholders will also remain in operation to help shape future Vision plans and to ensure that developments stay true to the original concepts.
The Vision website will continue to be updated with all the latest news and project information as developments take place.
Since opening in 2007 the Yeovil Vision Delivery Team has concentrated their efforts in the three key area namely: To turn the Vision into a reality by moving projects from the drawing board to physical delivery, to raise the profile of the Town and Vision and to adopt a "Team Yeovil" Approach to Project Delivery.
Key highlights have been completion before Christmas of the long-awaited improvements to the Reckleford Gyratory at the eastern end of Yeovil, the submission of a detailed planning application for Foundry House, the opening of the Flagship Play Area and the launch and publication of the Vision magazine.
In addition to the above, a number of other major projects are in the "pipeline" including the plans for a re-development of Yeovil bus station, public realm proposals for Market Street and Reckleford, further assessments of sites for the proposed Yeovil Sports Zone, the regeneration of Newton Road, the redevelopment of Milford Community Hall, and the part funding of a Ranger Station Country Park.
Alan Brown, Yeovil Vision Projects Director who will leave his post in December 2009 said
" I have greatly enjoyed my role in helping to establish and provide strategic direction and impetus to the delivery of the Yeovil Vision.
I think Yeovil is a much under rated Town and has real potential for the future. I wish the Funding Partners and Galaxy Group Members continued success. I will watch with interest how the Town continues to flourish and develop"
