Yeovil's first Tea Towel
Yeovil is now the proud owner of its very own souvenir in the form of a tea towel - for the first time in history.
500 tea towels are now available from Yeovil Tourist Information Centre and Yeovil Town House on Union Street following hundreds of requests from visitors who complained that they could only find Somerset keepsakes, but no souvenirs from Yeovil on its own.
The requests were taken up by South Somerset District Council and Yeovil Town Council, who pooled their resources and commissioned a bespoke tea towel showing illustrations of local landmarks.
The towel includes illustrations of a helicopter, gloves, an apple tree, Yeovil Town House, Sidney Gardens and the Jack the Treacle Eater folly in Barwick.
Tea towels are now on sale for £3.90 ready for the Christmas season with all costs covered by the retail price.
Cllr Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Well Being said, "Clearly there was a demand here, both from local people and from visitors to the tourist information centre, and it is good for a town to have a firm identity. There are lots of things that make Yeovil a distinctive and memorable place and the district and town council have worked together to come up with something that people can keep."
