The Second Yeovil Transport Strategy Review will produce a transport strategy and action plans to accommodate the development in the greater Yeovil area as detailed in the Government’s Regional Spatial Strategy. (see boundary map below) YTSR2 will align its plans with the objectives of the Local Transport Plan.
Key objectives of YTSR2 will be to:
- provide a transport system that accommodates the planned expansion for Yeovil
- assist economic performance by ensuring that congestion does not increase to unacceptable levels by:
- improving accessibility to maintain and improve upon the current high levels of walking and cycling
- increasing mode-share of sustainable travel methods
- creating measures to improve and maximise the effectiveness of the public transport system; and
- consider options for targeted infrastructure improvements
- improve safety for all road users
- protect and, if possible, enhancing the natural and built environment
One of the key aspects of the project will be to update the “Saturn Transport” model for the Yeovil area to provide base data for any future proposals.
YTSR2 Project Team includes representatives and input from: Somerset County Council, South Somerset District Council, Yeovil Town Council, Yeovil Vision, The Galaxy Group, The Environment Agency, Natural England and Atkins Ltd and Baker Associates.
The YTSR2 Project is expected to be completed by the end of 2009.
