Flagship Playspace Launches!

Hundreds of excited children flocked to Yeovil Recreation Centre on Wednesday to be the first to play on the district’s brand new £349k Flagship Playspace.
Over a thousand people attended the launch of the bespoke play destination, which is one of South Somerset District Council’s largest play projects to date and a key Yeovil Vision scheme.
Amongst the equipment put to the test were the 50-foot shipwreck and skull slide, which were designed in part by children from schools in Yeovil and Chard as part of a consultation run by design architects, Cracknell Ltd.
Robert Parr, South Somerset District Council’s Senior Play and Youth Officer commented, “This is the biggest, most challenging play area project the district council has ever attempted. My thanks go out to all the young people that put forward ideas for the design and the play work community in South Somerset that has been so supportive of this project. The launch was very well attended and I think the children’s excitement was clear to see. We got some very positive comments from parents too.
"I have to say a big thank you to all the staff and helpers who worked so hard to make the day such a success".
A pirate-themed children’s entertainment show, live music and activities run by South Somerset District Council’s Play Rangers kept children busy on the day, with the new Galley Kiosk keeping parents refreshed.
